The science and art of evidence-based flexibility training

What’s it about?

The Mobility Webinar Series is a series of 2 webinars covering the theory and practice of sustainable flexibility training for versatile movement. The first part of the series dives into the science behind flexibility training and the practice of the most foundational aspects of mobility training, while the second part focuses on specialized methods, quick-fixes, and refining techniques for specific situations.

The series is designed as a logical and comprehensive whole, but each webinar also works independently. After the first part, you will understand how and why different mobility methods work, how to choose or create exercises, and the key principles for long-term training. After the second part, you will know how to vary exercises for different situations, utilize specialized mobility techniques and quick-fix tricks, and enhance your mobility training in a situation-specific way.

The regular price of the entire webinar series is €149. Prices include 25,5% VAT.

Webinar schedule and content

At the moment, no new dates are planned for the webinar series. The schedule will be announced here.

The webinar is conducted on the Zoom platform. The session will be recorded, and a link to the recording will be sent to participants the week following the training. Those attending the live session will have the opportunity to ask questions.

The webinar serie consists of a total of 4 hours of content:
  • What changes in the body during effective mobility training? The exercise physiology of mobility training.
  • What is the fundamental basis of mobility development, and how should it be reflected in practice? From threat perception to the underlying mechanisms.
  • Different types of flexibility/mobility – what is the most useful classification, and how should the foundation of flexibility training be built?
  • Periodization and programming of flexibility training – how hard and how often should it be done?
  • The most important mobility training methods for building a strong foundation – tools for long-term progress.
  • Varying and scaling exercises – warm-up vs. workout, skill vs. strength.
  • Building stronger muscles and more resilient connective tissue – loaded mobility.
  • Strength and skill in and around the desired movements and positions. Drills vs. tasks, internal vs. external focus.
  • The most useful specialized techniques and their best applications – tools for warm-ups and other quick-fix situations.
  • Utilizing proprioception and touch – targeted use of foam rollers, massage balls, stuffed animals, etc.
  • Appropriate combination of active and passive mobility – various PNF methods (e.g., combinations of contract-relax and contract-relax-antagonist-contract stretches).
  • Utilizing (and bypassing) the body’s protective reflexes. Ballistic mobility.
  • Active mobility – working with gravity vs. against gravity.
  • Performance analysis as the basis for selecting mobility exercises – how to avoid the trap of apparent similarity.
  • The place of mobility training within other workouts – when is a warm-up enough, and when are separate mobility sessions needed?
  • A promise: If the webinars did not answer your mobility-related questions, feel free to ask at the end – I will answer every question asked by the participants by the end of the webinar! If you want to delve deeper into the topics, there will be an opportunity to do so.

The webinar summarizes the most relevant practical insights from the current body of research as well as the trainer’s over 10 years of professional coaching experience. Topics raised in previous training sessions will receive special attention, and the most common questions will certainly be addressed.

Participants will have access to the webinar recording for one month after the session – so it doesn’t matter if you can’t attend live!

Who is the webinar series for, and why should you join?

The webinar series is for anyone for whom flexibility/mobility is important and who wants to take their mobility training to the next level. The first part is for those who want to understand why the exercises work and what should form the foundation of flexibility, while the second practical part offers a toolkit of tricks and practical tools for mobility fine-tuning.

As a whole, the webinar series summarizes what you need to know about the science behind mobility training from a practical perspective and how it should be applied in practice. After this, you’ll understand why each mobility method works and will be able to choose the most effective methods for yourself based on the situation.

No prior knowledge is required. The webinar series is primarily aimed at athletes and artists, but coaches and teachers will also gain a lot from it. In the practical section, exercises aimed at and/or enhancing splits will be used as examples, but the exercises will be highly beneficial even if your mobility goals aren’t as focused on splits.
